Secondary Science: Expanding the Gizmo Experience - Middle School Science LIMITED

Participants will understand the similarities and differences between whole group and small group instruction and effective ways to utilize each method to improve student learning. Participants will learn ways to incorporate Gizmos into collaborative classroom discussions, cooperative learning, and situations where students are constructing arguments supported by evidence. Participants will develop customized lessons by modifying Gizmo Lesson Materials. This session is eligible for 3 exchange hours and will be repeated in the afternoon.

We'll explore key components of a phonemic awareness lesson, the progression of skills throughout a school year, and additional scaffolds teachers can use to support diverse student needs. You will leave with an understanding of how instruction targeting each skill builds a foundation for reading and how to effectively use hand motions and additional supports in phonemic awareness instruction.
